After studying the local ecosystem, I feel like I belong here. - Surya:It took me a whole year to get to know this island and its people.
Looking back, I probably should have gone out more.
That would’ve made the process faster. - Surya:Be careful at the forest...I was in the forest when I got caught in the storm.
And listen to this. While I was looking for shelter, I found a little cave, so I went in, right?
I mean, anyone would, at that point.
Then I realized the cave was actually an old mining site.
I dug out a couple of diamonds while I was there.

The mining site is in the very back of the forest, right across the river. - Surya:Umm… Yeah?

Oh… Errr… Great talk. - Surya:I’m embarrassed to admit I got lost the other day trying to find my way back from the forest.
I needed to collect some species for work, but I lost track of time.
It got dark very quickly… I had no idea. - Surya:We’re moving toward the same goal, to make Coral Island home.
Yeah, you and me. We both want the same thing. - Surya:I’m kinda feeling it now.
Coral Island is starting to feel like home. - Surya:I like to spend my Saturdays here.

Coral Island has one of the most beautiful coral reefs, and I want to study it!
I’d love to spend my life doing what I can to protect it from rising sea temperatures. - Surya:I don’t know what to tell you, Player.
But I don’t think there are such things as mermaids.
I’ve dived my whole life, and I’ve never seen a mermaid.
Also, I’ve read a lot about the ocean, and nothing ever mentioned the existence of mermaids.
I could easily be wrong, though. The world is full of unanswered mysteries. - Surya:Mermaids?! Around Coral Island?

Mild, Player. It really was nothing… I’ve shared too much. Bye-bye, now. - Surya:Tomorrow is work as usual for me. Nope, nothing special planned that I remember.
Oh, umm… I won’t be going out tonight. I have to be at 100 percent tomorrow. - Surya:I don’t want to be rude by calling Dr. Jiang “Ling.” But she asked me to… It felt really weird at first.
Ling said it sounded too formal for her, but she was more than happy to address me as Dr. Widjojo if I preferred.
I declined her offer and said we could keep the environment in the lab casual. - Surya:I’m meeting a couple of friends at Fishensips this Friday. Nothing fancy, just to chat and play some pool, maybe.
You know, the usual stuff. You should come out! It’ll be fun. - Surya:Not sure if you noticed, but there’s not one store on this island open seven days a week.
It’s a good thing in the era of twenty-four-seven stores, I say. It teaches us patience.
Except for the clinic. They always have someone on call in case of an emergency. - Surya:Silence doesn’t bother me. I’m used to being in a lab all day and night. In fact, I really can’t work well in a room full of people.
- Surya:I don’t bring my work home. It would be way too messy. Besides, Archie can be pretty noisy. It’s just too hard for me to focus.
- Surya:Uncle Joko makes sure I don’t skip any festivals, because he doesn’t want me to miss all the fun.
I obliged. - Surya:Uncle Joko is Dad’s brother. You’ve never met him, but they kind of look alike. I think I look like Uncle Joko a bit, no?
It’s my eyes, I think. Dad and I have the same eyes. It’s in our genes.

But it’s still a bit too cold for me. - Surya:I was helping Aunt Dinda weed the crops.
Spring is finally here, isn't it? - Surya:The sakura trees usually only blossom for a two-week period… Two or three weeks, something like that.
It isn’t usually a whole-season thing, but it is here. Must be something special in the water. - Surya:The lake is beautiful in Spring… Pink petals everywhere. But I prefer to swim in the ocean.
I kind of like the salty water. Is that weird? Ha ha. - Surya:I’m so glad Winter’s over with.
I feel a lot better now… - Surya:The hot spring near our house is sometimes visited by wildlife…like monkeys.
Especially in the colder seasons, like now. But I read somewhere that they go there to relax rather than to keep warm.
Their thick coats keep them plenty warm. - Surya:My parents never asked too much of me.
Just to make sure I remember to share what I have with the community.
I know it isn’t for everybody, but that’s how I was brought up.
We need to take care of each other as a community. - Surya:What a beautiful day for a swim!

- Surya:We should be able to see seals chilling at the beach this time of year.
Some are shedding their old coats, and some are there to get away from predators.
That’s what I read online anyway. - Surya:There’s nothing like going to the ocean on a hot Summer day.
Except for eating melon… - Surya:Now this weather is meant for me, Player.
Hot, humid, sun blazing down. Love it. - Surya:If you get too exhausted at the beach – sun does that to you – go to the Beach Shack to cool off and get some coconut water.

Or is it Coral Tall coconut? - Surya:The only time I truly feel at home here is when Summer hits and the heat rises. I guess I’m just a tropical boy at heart!

We met at the beach and got to talking a bit.
Apparently, she lives in the abandoned villa on the beach and now only comes here for the Summer.
Wow, that felt gossipy. Heh! - Surya:Uncle Joko tells me festivals are great way to meet everybody, especially since I’m new around here.
- Surya:The beach cleanup is on the twenty-eighth, right?
Umm… I think.Uh… My mistake. I think it’s on the twenty-seventh.
I got it mixed up with the one back on Puny Island. - Surya:Dr. Ling and I recycle all the trash collected during the annual beach cleanup.
We turn it into materials for the town to use to fix community buildings or broken pavements. - Surya:It’s finally warm enough to go to the beach again!

- Surya:It’s starting to get chilly. I hope it doesn’t get any colder than this.
- Surya:One thing I like about Fall is the fresh mushrooms. You can make polenta with them, and nothing beats freshly harvested mushrooms!
- Surya:I love the Harvest Festival. It’s a good example of just how close-knit this community is.
But then there are the Beluga Bay farmers… - Surya:It’s mushroom season, all right! Going to the forest to forage anytime soon?
Me? Nope… I don’t think so. I’m scared I might get lost.
Maybe if I can get my uncle to come with me… - Surya:Do you know where I can get some bamboo shoots in Fall?
I went looking for them around the hot spring area… No luck. - Surya:Nina is smart and humble. I feel like I can talk to her all day, and I usually have a hard time chatting with people.
But with her, it just flows, you know?

I’m blabbering again. - Surya:The house smells wonderful lately because Aunt Dinda has been busy testing recipes for the cooking competition.
I’ll go with the whole family to watch the contest, but I don’t think I’ll enter this year.

- Surya:I don’t think I’ll ever get used to Winter…
