(An annoyed Miranjani tries to follow her mother's swimming form.)

 Miranjani:

Like. This. Mother?

 Nanda Devi:

Sure, for an audience to planktons, but not other royalties.
Straighten your back further.

 Miranjani:

It doesn't bend any further, Mother. This is my limit...

 Nanda Devi:

Good.
Now, practice your royal greetings.

 Miranjani:

Ahem.
Dearest royalties, I wish you well on this fine evening.
I, Miranjani, greet you-

 Nanda Devi:

Princess Miranjani.

 Miranjani:

I, Princess Miranjani, greet you on this fine day as the representative of the great Merfolk Kingdom to, uh...

(Miranjani notices the player and swims over to them.)

  Player:

I, Princess Miranjani, thank you for your good wishes.

 Miranjani:

 Nanda Devi:

We will continue with your studies in a few minutes.

 Miranjani:

Event summary	Nanda Devi has Princess Miranjani practice her lessons on kingdom security.

The event starts when the Player starts to walk into the barrack.

(Queen Nanda Devi and Princess Miranjani are in the barrack with the guards to hear the patrol report.)

 Nanda Devi:

Report, Semeru. What news do we have of the patrols?

 Semeru:

Everything is in order, Your Majesty. Our patrols found no peculiarities.

 Nanda Devi:

Excellent. Princess Miranjani, if you would be so kind.

 Princess Miranjani:

Yes, Ma'am. Is our guard intake getting better this year?

 Semeru:

I am afraid that is not the case, Princess. The peace period of our kingdom means less interest in enlisting.

 Princess Miranjani:

Great! Let's try to slowly discourage-

 Nanda Devi:

Princess... Surely you still remember our last session about the kingdom's defense.

 Princess Miranjani:

But Mother, you heard it yourself, we are at peace...

 Nanda Devi:

(Semeru bows. He leaves and the other guards follow. Agung and Denali pause at the door.)

 Agung:

Heard that? Our salaries are getting raised. I'm going to splash so much on seashells.

 Denali:

Shush! Everyone can still hear us!

(Semeru yells from outside)

 Semeru:

You both better hurry up before I add another shift to your patrols.

 Agung:

Right away, Sir!

(Denali and Agung rush outside.)

 Nanda Devi:

What just happened, Mira? You almost lost the guard's trust in your future rule.

 Princess Miranjani:

So it's not about keeping our kingdom safe? Is it all just to make the guards 'fall in line' during my rule?

 Nanda Devi:

I do not recall raising a daughter to be this naïve.

(Princess Miranjani crosses her arms in irritation.)

 Nanda Devi:

Look, Mira, I know how hard it is right now, but surely you still remember about our privilege and obligation as-

 Princess Miranjani:

Yes, yes, I remember. Privilege, obligation... But I don't remember asking to be born as royalty.

 Nanda Devi:

...!

 Princess Miranjani:

Mother, I am deeply grateful for the privilege of being born into royalty, but I believe you understand as well as I do that I am not destined for this role. Ruling a kingdom... It's simply not who I am.

 Nanda Devi:

Not you? Do you think I was born ready to rule? None of us were. But for those like us, there is no alternative. Our people depends on us. We are chosen for this duty. The least you can do is embrace it, as I have.

(Princess Miranjani looks sad and gestures as if rubbing her eyes.)

 Nanda Devi:

If you're not taking the throne, then who will? Your cousin Kelimutu, dread the thought, is next in line. He's as dull as a barnacle. What will become of the kingdom under his rule? Straight down the drain, I have no doubt.

 Princess Miranjani:

Maybe he should take the throne. It hurts me that you don't care about my happiness. But, Mother, I do care-I care about my own happiness. Have you ever considered that?

(Princess Miranjani swims away, sad. The player approaches Queen Nanda Devi and bows.)

 Nanda Devi:

I appreciate that you did not meddle.

  Player:

Your Majesty, maybe Miranjani's heart lies elsewhere. Could there be another path for her, one where she can still serve the kingdom?

 Nanda Devi:

Your concern is noted, but our duties to the kingdom often surpass personal desires. It's a hard truth of royalty.

  Player:

I understand this is a family matter, Your Majesty.

 Nanda Devi:

Thank you for respecting our royal affairs. It's a difficult balance but one we must navigate as rulers.

  Player:

 Nanda Devi:

This is a matter we must resolve within our family. Your discretion is appreciated.

(Queen Nanda Devi calmly swims out of the barrack. The event ends.)
