Game time is the number of hours where the player can do various tasks on the island. The day starts at 6:00 and ends at 23:59 (11:59PM). Players can stay awake until 2:00 - though there are consequences for staying up late.

Passage of time[]

Time in Coral Island passes at a rate of 1 in-game hour per 45 real world seconds or 1,080 real world seconds per 24 in-game hours by default. The passage of time is paused when the player is viewing a cutscene or talking to a townie, or when they are accessing any of the game's menus.

The game speed can be changed from the options menu, reducing the tick rate by up to 50% and thus increase the amount of time it takes for a single hour in-game to pass to 67.5 real world seconds from the default 45 real world seconds per in-game hour.

  • 50% = 67.5 (real world seconds per 1 hour in-game)
  • 60% = 63 (real world seconds per 1 hour in-game)
  • 70% = 58.5 (real world seconds per 1 hour in-game)
  • 80% = 54 (real world seconds per 1 hour in-game)
  • 90% = 49.5 (real world seconds per 1 hour in-game)
  • 100% = 45 (real world seconds per 1 hour in-game)

Times of day[]

Days in Coral Island pass in various stages that influence the lighting, music, and appearances of many fish, insects, and sea critters.

The clock in the upper right corner of the UI displays an icon representing Daytime during 06:00–17:50 (6:00AM-5:50PM) and Nighttime during 18:00–23:50 (6:00PM-11:50PM). Insects and sea critters spawn and despawn based on these divisions of the day.

Fish appearances are instead divided into four times of day: Morning during 06:00–11:50 (6:00AM-11:50AM), Afternoon during 12:00–15:50 (12:00PM-3:50PM), Evening during 16:00–17:50 (4:00PM-5:50PM), and Night during 18:00–01:50 (6PM-1:50AM). The times are visible on the Sturdy Computer if the Fishing Component is researched.

The exact timing of the transitions may vary from season to season, with longer daylight hours in the summer and longer nights in the winter.

Shops and townies[]

All shops and townies in Coral Island abide by schedules based on the in-game time, in addition to day of the week, season and weather. Most shops will open or close according to the hour, while townies may travel to certain locations or perform certain tasks depending on the time.

Sleep[]

Players who sleep before or exactly at 0:00 will wake up the next morning with their energy bars completely refilled. If players stay up later, between 0:00 and 1:00, the energy bar will only be partially refilled. Players who stay awake past 2:00 will collapse and be automatically brought back to the farmhouse with their energy bars only partially refilled and a small fee (5% of the player's money, up to 2,000 Coin) taken from their wallet.

The player will wake up at 6:00 regardless of what time they went to bed.
