Diving is the player’s ability to go underwater to clean up the trash and gain valuables from the sea. When diving, the player can find kelp, chests, pearls and other underwater scavenge items.
Diving is unlocked on the 8th day of Spring when the player receives a letter instructing to meet at the dock.
Diving mastery[]
The Diving mastery pertains to all things having to do with navigating, cleaning trash, and harvesting resources on the sea floor. The efficiency of the player's diving tools is increased as they gain proficiency in their diving mastery. Gaining levels also allows them to obtain new crafting recipes or points to spend for new skill.
Experience[]
The player can increase their diving mastery level by regularly spending their time on underwater activities like cleaning up trash in the ocean and gathering items on the ocean floor. Using Vortexanator to clear the debris will still provide points.
Action | Points |
---|---|
Clearing debris with a scythe (10m) | 0.25-0.6 per pile |
Clearing debris with a scythe (20m) | 0.6-0.9 per pile |
Cutting kelp with a scythe | 1 |
Breaking sandstone with a pickaxe | 0.5 |
Gathering a regular quality item | 3 |
Gathering a bronze quality item | 3.75 |
Gathering a silver quality item | 4.5 |
Gathering a gold quality item | 6 |

Levels[]
Reaching a new level in diving mastery grants the player new crafting recipes when they go to sleep to end their day.

1 | 120 | 120 | |
2 | 290 | 410 | |

Skills[]
Every other level of diving mastery gained allows the player to unlock one skill. The player will be able to unlock up to five skills total. The last skill can be unlocked by purchasing diving elixir.
Skill | Description and effect |
---|---|
Double Kelp | 20% chance to harvest double kelp. |
Rare Trash | 2% chance for trash to drop rare resources. |
Treasure Finder | 100% increase to the chances of finding artifacts. |
Double Artifacts | 5% chance to receive double artifacts from artifact troves. |
Artifact Price | 30% increase to the selling price of all artifacts. (in-game description is wrong, actually affect all ocean scavengables and kelps) |
Ocean Loot | 5% chance to forage double items. |
Tools[]
The main tool used while diving is the scythe, used for breaking up piles of trash and cutting patches of kelp and seaweed. The scythe consume 3 energy per successful hit of a breakable or harvestable object.
Vacuums can also be used to quickly destroy trash found underwater, but lack the chance of activating mining skills. A pickaxe is required to destroy sandstone deposits on the ocean floor, but doesn't affect the Diving skill.
Tool efficiency[]
The higher the player's diving level is, the less energy it costs to use the scythe. Eating consumables that grant a Diving Proficiency buff can further reduce the stamina cost. The pickaxe is not affected.

---|---|
1 | 5% |
2 | 10% |

5 | 25% |
6 | 30% |

Diving process[]
Once diving is unlocked, the player can start their dive anytime between 6:00 and 23:00 by interacting with the boat at the Diving Pier. The player will have a choice to return to the location they have left the anchor last time they dived or reset the start location.
When underwater, the player will need to clear trash and debris on the ocean floor with their scythe to obtain resources and collect solar orbs. They can also catch underwater critters with their critter net, cut seaweed, or collect items that spawn on the ground.
When the player unearths a solar orb, they will need to activate it by picking it up and when clearing the way towards a pylon to heal nearby corals. Healing corals earns the player town rank points, improves the quality of fish caught, and progresses one of the main quests of the game. It can also open previously inaccessible underwater areas by cleaning the oil from the environment.
The player can leave the underwater area by interacting with the anchor. The anchor can be moved by pressing X and waiting until it drops.
Trash and debris[]
Every trash or debris pile can drop items when destroyed (up to a maximum of 3 items per pile).
Type | Hits | Exp | Possible drops |
---|---|---|---|
Small trash | 1 | 0.3 | |
Sturdier trash and tires | 2 | 0.6 | |

Puzzles[]
As the player explores the underwater areas, they may encounter various puzzles that need to be completed in order to progress.
Only one of these puzzles is currently implemented.
Ocean scavengables[]
Items found in the ocean stay the same regardless of the season, and instead change according to how deep underwater the player is. Unlike land forageable items, they give diving experience when picked up.
